We've all heard the old saying, "Life is in the Journey". But, we've all also heard the old tapes in our heads that say "Hurry up and get there, already!!" In building Unity Communities, we keep reminding ourselves that this mission is a marathon that can only be completed one step at a time. As we move through this process, our eyes stay fixed on the finish line which is thriving communities filled with happy, healthy, fulfilled people, living, working and BEing together in love, mutual respect, and collaboration.

The landscape of community is shifting and examples are sprouting up all across the nation. New paradigms of Intentional Communities, Co-Housing/Ownership Models, Multi-Generational Villages, and Transitional Housing for everyone from people with special needs, to foster care families, the elderly, and veterans. We are so happy and proud to be a part of this movement and invite anyone who is interested to follow along with our progress as well as to participate in building a new future for our families.

Our most exciting update is that we have identified a potential location for our first community to be built which is in Dane County, Wisconsin, around the Madison area. So many people have stepped forward to help make this vision a reality. We feel immensely blessed and fortunate to be at this point because we know this is just the beginning.

As our experts explore the options available to build the community, we must now look to the people who wish to live there. Because a community is not a place, its the people who create it. And, we are so excited to hear from you!

Unity Communities is exploring new approaches to housing and support for individuals with disabilities and their families—and we believe the people most affected should help shape what comes next.

This brief needs assessment gives individuals with disabilities, families, caregivers, and community members an opportunity to share their experiences, challenges, hopes, and ideas. We want to understand what is working, what isn't, what is missing, and what a truly supportive and meaningful home and community could look like.

Your voice will help us identify community priorities, demonstrate the need for new housing and support options, and guide the development of future programs and services. We are not coming to the community with all the answers. We are listening first, so that what we build reflects what people actually need and value.
